Claudia yawned and stretched her arms sensually. She leaned against the pillar of the balcony of her beautiful villa in Anzio, the rich beach resort preferred by the emperors and senators of Rome.

"Such a beautiful day! I wonder when dad will come back from Gallia, I kind of miss him after almost 5 months gone to war." Her silky white gown flew gently down her slender body, tied in the waist by a golden belt with dangling gold charms. Her hand rested on it and she remembered Flavius, the senator. I don't know why dad wants me to marry a 30 year old man when I just turned 18!". Her maid came and started combing Claudia's silky black hair. She braided it with a string of pink pearls, the latest fashion in Rome.

Claudia saw a cloud of dust on the horizon and squinted to see better. "Could that be her father's troops coming back?". She ran down the marble stairs into the luscious garden and stopped to pick some fresh aromatic jasmine blossom to perfume her hair.

General Marcus Regulus had just made his entrance with his chariots. He ran to hug his only child.

Behind him were two strangers, a big black one and a tall white man with blond hair. They looked like slaves. "I brought you some surprises from Gallia, my dear!" said Marcus Regulus.

The general opened the trunk allowing his daughter to excitedly dig and eye a variety of exotic silks, cashmeres and embroidered garments.

She also examined - discretely - the white slave's blue eyes and his muscular body. "He is as beautiful as a god!" thought Julia. She also noticed he was wearing a wide gold bracelet in his forearm, which seemed to have intricate designs and gemstones, unusual for a slave.

"Oh, Claudia, this is Olaf, prince of the Norse. I captured him on one of my battles with the Vikings."

Olaf smiled at Julia and gently took off his gold bracelet and offered it to her. "This is my gift to you, my lady. With it I surrender myself not only to Rome, but to your enchanting beauty forever". Julia blushed. "Thank you Olaf". After the Viking left, the General smiled at his daughter. "So, did you like my surprise?" "I loved it!" said Julia, caressing her new bracelet. "It is just what I always wanted!"

Evil eye bracelet question:?

For all of you superstitious folks out there: my friend has a bracelet of the evil eye, and no matter what she does, it won't stay fastened. What is your interpretation of this? She wishes good luck for her love life and bought the red bracelet, and it will still become unfastened, even if she triple-knots it.
BTW...I've seen her knotting, and it's EXTREMELY tight. We're just looking for explanations beyond the rational..we can do rational.
