How can I get some relief from the constant, terrible pain caused by a pinched nerve in my neck/shoulder?!?
Bad shoulders run in my family, but I think this issue also has something to do with my years as a waitress. Holding lots of weight straight up in the air put a lot of strain on my neck and shoulders. Now, every once in a while, I get what I assume is a pinched nerve. It feels like the issue might be in the base of my neck somewhere, but it affects my left shoulder terribly. Once the pain comes, it stays for days at a time. I can't sleep because no matter what position I'm in it seems to put pressure on my shoulder and makes the pain worse. I've been reduced to whining and whimpering to my husband about the pain at 4 in the morning... so sad. IBProufen seems to help a small amount. I've also got some response from ice packs. BUT IT'S NOT ENOUGH. I need a miracle. Some sports cream or some herbal rememdy, maybe? I'm getting desperate ) :
The majority of my family suffers with Degenerative Disc Disease in some form or fashion. You should really find a good orthopedic surgeon to determine if you have this. I found relief after my surgeon performed an Anterior Discetomy and fused my C5-6 vertebrae. This might not be the case for you, but it would be worth looking into. The doctor can order x-rays, MRIs, and CT Scans to determine if this is your problem ...
Once my doctor did the surgery, my pain went away. Prior to going to the surgery, some of my pain relief techniques included:
1. I used heating pads and Thermacare Wraps. I liked the Thermacare b/c you could stick in on your skin and they provided up to 12 hours of relief.
2. Aleve - I would take this or Ibuprofen.
