Corned beef is an old time favorite food which can be easily purchased at your nearby grocery store. In case you didn't know, corned beef used to be a homemade recipe. It was only until the commercial products began showing up that the old time recipe of homemade corned beef began to fade. The lack of time and the search for convenient living may have contributed to the commercially prepared corned beef's popularity.

However, making your own corned beef at home is so much better than those ready-to-eat alternatives. Why? It is much cheaper, tastier, and healthier because of the preservative-free preparation. If you are picky about the foods you provide for your family, this is a healthier alternative as compared to those which can be bought from the supermarket.

What Do You Need

There are a variety beef cuts and even pork cuts you can use for your corned beef. You can choose from brisket, round roast, boneless chuck roast, eye of round, and a few others more except for the steak cuts. If you wanted to serve a unique kind of corned beef, why not try the tongue parts of beef, pork, and lamb. The prepared recipe will still taste as good but the difference is in its texture and appearance.

The initial step in curing the choice meat cuts includes soaking it in brine, a salt curing mixture similar to the marinade. In the brine, you can actually use your preferred spices such as black pepper, thyme, paprika, bay leaf, rutabaga, onions, carrots, garlic, allspice berries, sage, and other spices you'd like to include.

How Is It Done

The choicest cuts of meat should only have a few traces of fat in it or you can just trim it all away if you wanted a healthier corned beef served for the whole family. The corning process can be done in several ways but I highly recommend using zip-lock bags or vacuum containers for this.

I also recommend using ten to twelve pounds of meat so that you have an ample supply of corned beef available anytime you need one. In a roasting pan filled with forty-five cups of water, mix in all the spices you wish to add. You can take care of the proportions of the spices, the more you add, the more flavorful your corned beef becomes. Don't forget to add about one and a half cups of non-iodized rock sea salt and about three tablespoons of brown sugar into the mixture.

You can now immerse the meat cuts into the brine mixture, carefully rubbing the brine into each meat. After that, equally divide the meat cuts into each zip-lock bags or vacuum containers and then pour the brine mixture into each bag or container. You should remove as much air as possible so that the corning process is effective.

Place all the bags or containers in a large bowl and then put about ten pounds of weight over them. You can use plates or canned goods to weigh them down and then put the large bowl at the bottom part of the refrigerator. Check the bags after six hours and gently massage the bags to allow the brine to work into the crevices of the meat. Return the weight on top and put them back into the refrigerator.

You should cure the meat for about two weeks. Three weeks of curing will make the corned beef even more flavorful. But you should massage the meat daily and turn the bags onto another side for balanced curing. Also, do not forget to place the weight on top and return the large bowl containing the bags into the refrigerator.

After two weeks, you can open one of the bags and pour its contents into a bowl filled with cold fresh water. You have to soak the meat into several changes of water to remove any excess salt from the meat. The average soaking process can be done in about twenty four hours.

When you cook it, don't be surprised if the corned beef doesn't look like the artificially prepared ones because your homemade corned beef don't have the carcinogenic food coloring. It will turn into grayish-brown corned beef after it is cooked but it will taste as good as or even much better than the commercial products.

How do I use essential oils for fragrance and/or vapor healing?

I just ordered orange, lavendar, peppermint and tea tree oil.
I do not want to take them internally. I am looking for ideas for baths, adding them to things, how do I vaporize them, how do I use them as scents, how do i use them for cleaning and laundry?

You can add a few drops of essential oils to your bath. Start with 3-5, you can add more. Adding base oil or milk as well is helpful.
You should not 'burn' eo's. Heating them to encourage their dispersion is okay. You can use an inexpensive duftlamp that uses a candle or small light bulb under a dish of water and eo's or a diffusor that uses air flow to disperse the eo's.
I do not suggest that you use essential oils in the laundry. Everyone seems to think that is a great idea, but the truth is that it is a waste of eo's. The detergent removes them from the fabric and you would need to use such a large amount, the cost is prohibitive.
Adding eo's to cleanser is a fine idea. I just make soapy water and add citrus oils or something that is aging that I would not use therapeutically.
You can add eo's to body lotion or oil. Somewhere between 3 and 15% eo's to base material.

Well there are heaps and heaps of different recipes for Black Pepper Chicken. You could try typing it onto the internet. But usually food you can get from a restaurant is like a secret recipe. They're not made for other people to make at home. They are made so they can earn a profit for their restaurant.

But here's a recipe for it anyway.

Black Pepper Chicken Recipe
Ingredients:
1lb boneless skinless chicken breasts (or thighs)
6 tablespoons cornstarch (for dusting)
1 white onion (diced)
1 cup frozen peas and carrots
oil (for drying)
Sauce-
¼ cup oyster sauce
1 teaspoon soy sauce
1 teaspoon black pepper
½ teaspoon white pepper
1 teaspoon sake or rice wine

Cooking Instructions:
Step 1: Mix together all of the sauce ingredients in a bowl and set aside.
Step 2: Cut chicken into ½“cubes and dust chicken pieces with corn starch until fully coated.
Step 3: Deep fry (or fry in a wok) chicken in batches until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
Step 4: Heat about 1 tablespoon of oil in the wok and stir fry diced onion for a minute or two. Add peas and carrots and stir fry for another minute. Add sauce mixture to the wok and heat until bubbling. Add chicken stirring to fully coat with the sauce. Serve with white rice.

Arthritis is basically the breakdown of cartilage. The joints gradually lose cartilage, which is a gel-like, shock-absorbing substance that prevents adjacent bones from grinding against each other. Cartilage naturally protects the joint, allowing for smooth movement, and absorbing shock when pressure is focused on the joint. With damaged or weakened cartilage, the bones rub together, causing pain, stiffness, and swelling. Arthritis is more likely to occur as you age. Most commonly affected joints are those in the fingers, knees, and hips. As a joint continues to lose cartilage, the friction of the bones rubbing together can cause pain and joint instability.

Any kind of pain or aches can certainly make anyone's life uncomfortable. Whether they are the result of an injury, repetitive use of muscles and joints associated with sports or simply aging, pain can make you feel older than your years. It can also prevent you from engaging in activities you enjoy. The patients who come to me with aches and pains are all too familiar with prescription painkillers and over-the-counter drugs, but they often struggle with side effects. These medications are not the only option for managing your pain. Let's explore some natural options to stave off soreness, increase mobility and soothe aches.

Why Go Natural?

As I mentioned above, we all know that drugs such as acetaminophen, aspirin and ibuprofen are accessible, inexpensive and generally effective at dulling pain. Many of my patients depend on these synthetic painkillers because they don't know where else to turn. After seeing the unpleasant side effects of some of these medicines, I have researched natural alternatives that may be just as effective as harsh drugs.

There is nothing wrong with using over-the-counter painkillers occasionally, but for those with chronic pain, complications often arise. Aspirin, for instance, can cause upset stomach in many people. Ibuprofen can lead to liver damage if used excessively.

Furthermore, continued use of these synthetic medicines often results in reduced efficacy as the body adapts to the active ingredients. Consequently, you need to increase your dosage to get the same pain management benefits, and the danger of side effects also rises.

Take for instance, Willow bark, derived from the white willow tree, has amazing pain-reducing properties similar to aspirin.

In one study at the University of Sydney, a group of patients were treated with willow bark and another group with refecoxib, a cox-2 inhibitor. After four weeks, both groups reported an equal reduction in pain levels. Cherries, a favorite summer staple, actually have anti-inflammatory properties that can soothe certain conditions. Eat a bowl everyday. Turmeric, a popular Indian spice, is another natural anti-inflammatory and is most effective when eaten with black pepper. Finally, ginger tea is an easy alternative that may ease the inflammation that causes pain.

Nourishing the body with the proper vitamins and minerals can help with pain management as well. Vitamin B12 was found to relieve back pain in a double-blind Italian research study. Magnesium, which supports muscle, nerve and immune function, was shown to reduce pain in a study conducted by German researchers.

A study at the University of Minnesota concluded that vitamin D deficiency may be a significant factor in musculoskeletal pain. Be sure to get the recommended daily allowance for your age and size. Other alternative treatments for pain include acupuncture, yoga and music therapy.

As you can see, the possibilities are endless when it comes to natural pain treatment. Discuss these alternatives with your doctor and learn which ones may be right for you. When it comes to herbal remedies, check with your doctor to avoid any harmful interactions with other medications or natural supplements you may be taking. Actively managing your pain is the first step to becoming active and pain free for life.

Borracho Beans Ingredients
2 cup pinto beans -- dried
1 each garlic -- crushed
1 each onion -- chopped
2 tbsp bacon drippings
2 each tomatoes or 16 oz can dra
2 each peppers -- jalapeno
1 each beer

Borracho Beans Directions
Soak beans in water overnight. Drain and cover with fresh water. Add
2 tsp salt, garlic and pork. Simmer 2 1/2 hours or until beans are
soft. Drain beans and reserve liquid. Heat bacon drippings and saute
the onions, peppers and tomatoes until soft. Stir the mixture into
beans and simmer 5 minutes. Just before serving, pour beer and as
much reserved liquid as desired into beans. Serve hot. Beans can be
mashed or "processed" for refrieds.

Slow cooked ground beef with chili beans, whole tomatoes, tomato paste, chopped vegetables and minced chilies. Chili is seasoned with salt, pepper, sugar, bay leaf, dried marjoram, and minced clove. Put this dish together in the morning, turn on the slow cooker and enjoy this evening. The chili flavors get a chance to meld while slow cooking, making this a very smooth chili with nice spice and great heat. Leftovers are fantastic and make a great condiment for chili burgers and hotdogs.

This is the perfect chili to serve as an appetizer, or as a lunch or dinner main or side dish.

Cook's Notes:

It may be necessary to add a little water to this chili to insure it does not dry out.

Slow Cooker Mexican Chili

Ingredients:

1 pound Lean Ground Beef

2 (15-1/2 ounces each) cans Chili Beans, hot and spicy

1 (28 ounces) can Whole Tomatoes, cut up and reserve liquid

1 (6 ounces) can Tomato Paste

1-1/2 cups chopped Celery

1 cup chopped White Onion

1/2 cup chopped Green Bell Pepper

4 ounces Serrano or Jalapeno Chili Peppers, seeded and finely minced

2 tablespoons White Sugar

1 Bay Leaf

1 teaspoon Coarse Salt

1 teaspoon Dried Marjoram, crushed

1 Garlic Clove, minced

1 dash Fresh Ground Black Pepper

Preparation:

1. Saute lean ground beef in heavy skillet over medium heat. Stir and crumble ground beef while cooking.

2. Drain off excess fat.

3. Add ground beef, chili beans, tomatoes with liquid, chopped celery, chopped onion, chopped green pepper, chili peppers, white sugar, bay leaf, coarse salt, dried marjoram, minced garlic and fresh ground black pepper.

4. Cook on LOW 10 hours.

5. Remove bay leaf. Serve hot.

Introduction
