<p>It's hard to believe but even into the 21st century there are skeptics who frown upon the idea that stress actually can be considered a reason to take time off from work. Aromatherapy for stress relief is another great option to consider.</p>
<p><strong>Medical Treatments:</strong> When stress begins to take over and affect your life, health and happiness, the right stress remedy may include professional help.  A psychiatrist or family doctor may prescribe an anti-anxiety or antidepressant medication.  A psychologist or licensed counselor can help you get to the root of the problem and develop a more capable coping style.  Grief counseling is also very effective in reducing stress due to loss, significant illness, divorce and other causes.</p>

<p>Another area where stress is a major player is among teenagers and college students. These are tough times mentally for our kids especially those making their way through higher education and stress management tips for college students are very much in demand.</p>
<p>For college students, it starts by being away from home and settling into a new environment. Not only do students need to make new friends but juggling social and study time can take it's toll. Being away from home for the first time means learning to fend for oneself and this requires plenty of maturity. While this can be taught at home it doesn't really hit home for our young folk until they are actually put in this position for the first time.</p>
<p>Stress can quickly start to manifest in many different forms with two of the biggest being weight gain, especially for first year students and looking for dangerous relief avenues such as drugs and alcohol.</p>

Could be the traffic, your boss, your tight schedule, your kids schedule, whatever. It happens to everyone at one point or another and for some, it just seems to be a way of life. Unfortunately, there have been many medical reports that claim stress to be the cause of people ending up with a catastrophic physical event that lands them in the hospital or worse. This article is being put together to help people find a unique, physical and musical method to combat this ever growing epidemic. Beat it by playing a drum.</p>
<p>It has been said that music calms the savage beast. You know the creature. It appears sometimes to yell colorful three and four letter words at the person that just cut you off. It has also been said that when someone physically punches, kicks or strikes out at something, that one may be taking out their frustrations. These two great time tested antidotes when rolled into one, gives you the anti-stress remedy known as playing a drum.</p>
<p>Let me elaborate a bit on those last three words "playing a drum." This is compared to the aggressive, loud, banging on a drum which would work fine to take out frustrations and possibly give you a headache but would lack the calming effect of the music. When you add music to the therapy you almost automatically become a player of the drum not someone banging on it. That is because of the instant effect music has as a calming agent. So before you see yourself as someone sitting behind a drum set, getting frustrated trying to hit the right drum or cymbal at the correct time while using all four of your appendages, stop. That is not the view we are going for. It is more like sitting on a beach in an Indian sitting position watching the sunset while tapping out the rhythm of the waves splashing against the shore.</p>
<p>So let's go into what type of drum is best for the job. The type of drum does not have to cost a lot nor be that large. Bongos are very popular and have two drums connected together that fit easily between ones legs. Both drums are usually on the higher end of the sound spectrum though. With that said, I believe a better choice is a very diverse drum called a djembe. It seems to be growing in popularity due to the spectrum of sounds that can be achieved with just one drum. It is like having three drums in one. It has a fabulous bass drum sound when hit in the center; a high bongo sound when hit on the edge and something in between when hit off center. It can also be played while held between the legs or while strapped hanging on the shoulder. These drums are not all that loud and can be played softly if noise is a concern. The typical volume level would be good accompaniment for an acoustic guitar. The sizes typically found have a drum head diameter of 8 to 16 inches and a length being roughly double the drum head size. The larger the drum the boomier the bass with a more lively overall tone. Of course the price goes up as the size gets bigger. A 10" drum is sufficient for the purpose of stress relief and is small enough to tote around without being a burden. </p>
<p>There are many other percussion musical instruments to choose from. The toca, doumbek, and darbuka are all similar to a djembe in size with variations in the shape to produce different tone and bass quality. The congas sound great but are a bit large. Other hand percussion instruments like tambourines, maracas and the like may be small and easy to carry around but do not have the same beating aspect required to release those built up frustrations.There does not have to be any fancy playing technique applied though someone may accidentally find themselves improving on their drums percussion playing ability. Someone may start out by simply keeping a basic beat to some familiar music. As time progresses you may find yourself playing to just about anything. And best of all you will find your stress level melting away with each beat. So beat stress away and play a drum for fun and your life.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>There are many different things that you can do which can help to reduce your stress levels but something that many people are turning to now is visualization therapy. This can help in so many different ways but the real key to being successful with this particular type of meditation is taking the time to be able to do it. Many of us live lives that are so full of different items that need to be done on a daily basis that it can be difficult to truly take the time in order to heal in this way. For those that do take the time, however, the results can be amazing.</p>
<p>There are several different types of visualization therapy and each individual is going to have to choose the one that will work the best in their case. It might also be possible that you need to try a number of different types of visualization therapy before you actually find the one that is going to work for you. My personal favorite is sitting quietly in a room and envisioning myself in the most peaceful and relaxing conditions that I could possibly be in. For me, it's a quiet island out of the middle of the ocean with a warm breeze and a nice shade tree. The scene may be different for you, but it should be something that helps to wash the stress away.</p>
<p>Another type of visualization therapy would involve you thinking about a particular color. Colors have personality and you would need to choose one that will help to calm and to soothe you. One of my favorite colors to think about whenever I am doing this type of visualization therapy is lavender. As a matter of fact, I often think about the color lavender and whenever I am having a difficult time falling asleep at night and it seems to help rather quickly.</p>
<p>There are many different books that are available on the subject of visualization therapy and this is a method of self-help that you would do well to learn. Once you are able to think about yourself in different surroundings and to really calm your stress as a result, you will begin to feel differently almost instantly. It's an excellent way for us to take a bite out of the stress that we may be feeling in our lives. I know you will find a way to make most of your stress go away.</p>
