<p>Approximately one third of adults are thought to be suffering from a life with too much stress. One recent study suggested as many as seventy percent of people asked, were indeed suffering from financial stress! This figure is staggering and more than likely a result of the current economic downturn.</p>
<p>Our modern lives coupled with the recent global downturn give some solid reasoning behind the increase of late. Even without the financial strains of the current climate, this figure is surely too high and stress management should be considered a top priority.</p>
<p>The one thing we all need to be doing during this recession is perform like never before. Adding value into the workplace or our businesses right now is the best way to protect our employment and financial situation. We can do that however, without pounding ourselves into submission with a do or die attitude. </p>
<p>It is possible to learn new methods, tools and stress management techniques to guide us through these choppy waters.</p>
<p>As we attempt to cram more and more into our busy lifestyles, it is fairly common that the state of our mental health is rarely considered. We almost become conditioned to stress and all of the issues that can arise from this state. Increased and raised levels of stress have been linked to all kinds of negative and problematic physical conditions. This almost silent menace can at lower levels be causing physical symptoms without most people realising. From headaches, through to skin rashes to complaints considerably more serious such as cancer and heart failure! Too much stress really can kill.</p>
<p>Stress management therefore could be one of the best uses of our time during this financial downturn. </p>
<p>It is prudent to always be taking this matter seriously however many do not, and at the same time many try to relieve their stress with behaviour that if anything can compound the issue.</p>
<p>Exercise cannot be underestimated as a great way to not only keep fit physically but also mentally. The time out we generate from our normal routines could well at present come as much needed tonic. There are many inexpensive or even free exercise regimes you could consider. You do not have to join a gym, if you have a bicycle that would be an ideal place to start or you may go for a very energetic walk or run three times a week. This exercise is particularly beneficial first thing in the morning, helping to raise your metabolic rate during the day and increase your mental sharpness for work.</p>
<p>The natural feel good factor and high experienced by the release of endorphins through your system whilst you exercise in itself will help to give you better mental stability and can help to ward off depression, which may be more likely during financial stress. This part of your stress management cannot be underestimated.</p>
<p>Keeping well hydrated whilst enjoying a varied and balanced healthy diet are also key factors. Caffeine is known to raise blood pressure, small quantities are acceptable say up to 3 cups a day. Attempt where you can to have decaffeinated drinks after six pm as caffeine may interrupt your sleep patterns, in turn causing fatigue and therefore a circle of more stress and more fatigue.</p>
<p>Alcohol should also be treated in the same way. Often used as a relaxant and a getaway from financial stress and concerns, alcohol is a depressant and during tough times should be treated with some caution and consumed moderately.</p>
<p>Once you have implemented the areas discussed above it would be prudent to take your stress management a stage further. You no longer need to tolerate your stress conditioning, there are some really good stress management and reduction programs out there proven to work.</p>

<p>In this high-tech age, life is stressful. You have to deal with health problems, money problems, work problems, family problems, and relationship problems, among others. Not only you may not know how to confront these problems, but also you may not have the time to deal with them. As a result, you feel stressed and distressed. Time stress has become a phenomenon of contemporary living. But to cope with stress, first and foremost, you need to find time to relax yourself. More importantly, you need to develop a strategy for real relaxation techniques.</p>
<p> First of all, relaxation is holistic, which means it involves relaxation of the body, the mind, and the spirit. You must find time to practice real relaxation techniques, such as taking a meaningful break from your daily routine. Meditation, jogging, going fishing, and taking a vacation are examples of relaxation techniques. But in order to relax, you must find time to relax, so time is of essence. Time stress is a major stress factor in everyday life that is detrimental to both physical and mental health. In order to relax, you must overcome time stress. Truly, we all have deadlines to meet in almost every aspect of our lives. Given that everybody has only twenty-four hours a day, it is unthinkable that you need more time to get your work done than everyone else. Do you "really" have more work that needs to be done than others? Just think about that! Time is all in your mind -- a result of your own thinking. So, do not let the constrains of your life mold your time; instead, change your perception of time. </p>
<p> One of the ways to overcome time stress is doing nothing. Deliberate non-doing gives you a sense of inner calmness that may let you re-consider the importance of doing only what are the most important things in your life, and to see in perspective why they are most important to you. Only when you start doing only the most important things to you, then you will begin to have enough time for everything else. This may sound stranger than fiction, but this is the truth to overcome time stress and to let you have time for real relaxation techniques, such as meditation and yoga. </p>
<p> After you have found time for yourself to relax, you must have the right attitude or mindset for relaxation, such as looking at things around you in perspective; Plato, the famous Greek philosopher, once said: "Nothing in the affairs of men is worthy of great anxiety." Meditate to become more aware of your body is mental relaxation to avoid anxiety. In meditation, you focus your mind on something insignificant or irrelevant, such as your breathing, so as to keep your mind remain at the present moment, even though just for only a short spell, without thinking of the past or the future. In that way, the mind becomes fully relaxed. </p>
<p> Design a morning relaxation routine to cope with stress. For optimum heart health, make a smooth transition from sleep to wakefulness. Research studies have indicated that heart attacks occur mostly in the morning because of the dramatic change from sleep to wakefulness (especially morning rush). To keep yourself healthier and more relaxed, follow the Tao way of waking up: Using your fingertips, massage your ears, eyes, lips, and nose, and lips. Gently tap your scalp with your hands. With a continual stroking action, massage your shoulders, elbows, hands, chest, abdomen, knees and feet. With your palms, massage your lower back. Vigorously inhale through your nose, and exhale through your mouth several times to rid your body of toxins. Then get out of bed. </p>
<p>If you have time, perform some yoga postures or simple stretch exercises. Throughout the day, whenever you can tear yourself from work or daily chores, practice eye-palming exercise. This unique eye-relaxation exercise uses your healing hands to direct energy to your eyes, as well as to rest your optic nerve and relax your entire nervous system, thereby instrumental in relaxing the body and the spirit as well to cope with stress. </p>
<p>To practice eye-palming exercise, sit comfortably with your elbows resting on a desk or a table in front of you. Rub your palms together to generate some warmth. Then place your warm palms over your eyes, without touching them, while resting them on the boney ridge surrounding your eyes with the heels of your hands on your cheekbones. Your eyes should be gently closed. Now, relax your mind, and breathe deeply through your nose, not your mouth. The slower your breathing is, the more relaxed your mind becomes. You can feel your abdomen and back expand and contract as you inhale and exhale, respectively. It is important to visualize complete darkness to relax your mind. Feel your neck and shoulders expand and contract as your deep and slow breathing continues. Eye-palming exercise is one of the real relaxation techniques, and you can practice it whenever you have 10 minutes or so. </p>

<p>Your job, as well as some other factors, will carry a lot of weight when looking at how stressful your job is. Of course, a job in something to do with medicine will have a lot of stress compared to many other jobs. However it is you who's the most important in all of this. In your workplace do you cope well with stress? Most of us know the answer to that question. A very curious thing regarding many people is that they simply don't do anything about the stress that they have. Lots of people just think of it as a fact of life, which is sort of correct, but it's not the full picture. You can help yourself with the power of your mind for you to use and change yourself.</p>
<p>People that choose to find a way to reduce their stress levels at work should be commended for their valor. You must first identify what is bothering you which may include how things operate at work and coworkers you cannot stand. Stress is the end result of the perception that there are things in our lives that control us. We need to understand that our perception of these people or situations is something that we can control. The key is to stop putting our energy into that which is beyond our control and realizing that it is a waste of our time and focus. </p>

<p>There are many things in today's society that are not good for us, stress is one of them and is also one of the biggest killers, it manifests itself in our bodies in many different ways. There is positive and negative stress, and it is negative stress that is usually the one we want to avoid. So how do we know when we are stressed? Here is a list of some of the top things that cause stress today, see if you recognize any of them in your life:</p>
<p>&#13;<br />
You work long hours&#13;<br />
There is competition at work&#13;<br />
You spend a lot of time in traffic&#13;<br />
You drink every day&#13;<br />
Divorce&#13;<br />
Overcrowded cities and noisy neighbors&#13;<br />
You have too much responsibility&#13;<br />
Your house has negative equity&#13;<br />
You owe a lot of money&#13;</p>
<p>And so the list goes on. As I mentioned earlier, this stress manifests itself in may different ways, see how many of these you have:</p>
<p>&#13;<br />
Lack of sleep or insomnia&#13;<br />
High blood pressure&#13;<br />
Indigestion problems&#13;<br />
Alcohol and drug problems&#13;<br />
Anxiety&#13;<br />
Ulcers&#13;<br />
Depression&#13;<br />
Headaches&#13;<br />
Memory problems&#13;</p>
<p>There are of course many more, and some of these can be caused by other illnesses, but they are also very much associated with stress. </p>
<p>There are many things you can do, and of course there is always some new drug out there to make it go away, but increasingly more and more people are turning to alternative medicine and things like hypnosis and self-hypnosis to help relieve their stress. I have used hypnosis myself to relive stress, and I can honestly say it has definitely helped me become more relaxed. I still spend many hours in traffic and lack sleep, but since I started with hypnosis I more readily accept it now and feel a lot better within myself, and I am also a much nicer person to be around.&#13;</p>
